Get a Domain Yahoo style!
Hi guys, today I am going to write about something that I discovered when researching web hosting, because as my regular readers will know, I already do my own web designing using Adobe Dreamweaver. I will begin by summing up the good points about getting your website domain registration with Yahoo, I will also talk about their web hosting package(once again the pro's and con's) and then I will give an overall summary of the services you would get if you choose Yahoo for your webhosting.
When you register your Yahoo Domain, It is rather cheap, trust me I have mine registered with another provider called Purplecloud which cost me about $40 per 2 years(Im from UK), compared to Yahoo's $9.95 per year. However this depends whether you are bothered that your web address end's in example.yahoo.com. Personally I can't see it being that much of a problem if you are just starting out a small business, it's not as though people interested in your business are going expect you to be an overnight 'big name'. Just to mention, I bought a .com address from Purplecloud and that is the most expensive address you can buy because it is the most easily recognisable address with your average Joe.
When it comes to the Web Host side of things, Yahoo seems to be a different story from what I've known because it appears as though you don't upload your own files via FTP but they have a pre-designed layout program. I don't know if this is to help business owners who do not know how to use web design programs or whether it is just one option they offer, either way you could still benefit from this especially if you are into internet marketing and just wish to have a basic site to use for information and adverts.
They also offer the usual statistics reports that you get with regular hosts or Google Analytics, they also seem to do a good job of providing you with gallery space for photographs, they handle uploading any videos you may wish to display and embedding them in a professional and stylish manner. They handle a lot of design aspects which some web designer's might not be able to integrate such as your own ecommerce store and search engine marketing, although this is only include in a merchant package for $39 where as the basic web hosting is around $8 for the year.
To conclude, I would say this product, the overall package(Domain & Web Hosting), is good value for money if you are able to spare the total amount of $50 dollars for your site design and inclusion in top search engine results. There is also the option of participating in special Advertisement's hosted by Yahoo, very much the same as Google Adverts. Although this is not a one off fee and you are advised to contact them to discuss your budget allowance for such services. This service is definitely aimed at entrepreneurs because the actual page is called 'Yahoo Small Business', so if you want produce your own website including a unique creative flair or you just don't want your hand held every step of the way then maybe this is not for you, however, it could save you money in the long term.
